Each year MSCI awards Coach of the Year honors in four categories. This year's recipients are: Theatre, John Rutherford, Groves
Over the past 16 years John Rutherford has distinguished himself as a top theatre educator. A list of his accomplishments include: *served as co-coach of the Detroit High School for the Fine and Performing Artsforensic team (3 years) *served as head coach of the Warren Fitzgerald High School forensic team (2 years) *hosted both district and regional forensic competitions *served as Vice President and then President of the Michigan Association of Speech andCommunication (MASC) *planned and coordinated two statewide MASC conferences *currently on the state board of directors for the Educational Theatre Association ofMichigan *coordinateall workshops, workshop presenters and judges for the state thespian festival *is the creator and executive producer of the Michigan All State Thespian Showcase (2 years) *has participated in the MIFA One-Act theatre competition for six different years *has participated in the mid-Michigan Theatre Arts Festival for 5 different years *currently John is: - director of theatre and assistant forensic coachat Groves High School in Beverly Hills -director of theatre at the Music Hall Center forPerforming Arts in Detroit -teacher of speech and theatre at Groves HighSchool in Beverly Hills Middle School, Richard Elias, Bloomfield Hills Middle School
