MSCI strives to be of service to our students, to our speech professionals, to our schools, to our larger communities. We do that in the following ways (and we are always looking for more and better ways to expand the reach of the MSCI mission). Scholarships: For college undergraduate juniors or seniors and graduate students at Michigan institutes of higher education preparing for a career in speech education, specifically envisioning a career involving speech coaching. Many small scholarships are available and may be combined. Awarded annually in May. Application deadline is April 1. See the application form here. Grants: For Michigan high school students seeking to attend a summer speech workshop in the state of Michigan. Awards of up to $100 per student are available. For Michigan speech professionals engaged in professional development in the state of Michigan. Awards of up to $1000. Find details here. Named Scholarship: Tournaments: MSCI offers several tournaments open to the high school students enrolled in the schools represented by its members. These tournaments are designed to encourage excellence at all levels of participation, in all disciplines associated with speech activities. Publication: MSCI publishes an annual year in review available at the Spring Conference and Tournament on Mackinac Island. Contact the Secretary of MSCI if you have photos you wish to submit for publication. Speech Products: MSCI offers many professionally produced products of interest to speech coaches. Find these products in the MSCI store. Conferences: The annual Spring Tournament is held concurrently with the Spring Conference at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. This is enough reason by itself to become a member of MSCI. A business meeting is held in the fall, conveniently at the same time and location as the MASC fall conference. Speech Coaches Hall of Fame: MSCI is proud of its history and those whose shoulders we stand upon. We preserve that history in part through maintenance of the Hall of Fame of past coaches on this website and in a huge plaque displayed permanently in the Grand Hotel. Click here to be taken to the Hall of Fame page on this website. Professional Involvement with other Speech Organizations: Four members of MSCI are elected to represent its members on the Michigan Interscholastic Forensic Association Council in staggered two-year terms. MSCI generated a substantial cash gift to the National Communication Association in support of George Ziegelmueller becoming an NCA Mentor in 2002. MSCI donated a large cash gift to Eastern Michigan University's SummerQuest 2002 high school forensics workshop in the summer of 2002 to help assure the continuation of this first year endeavor.
